Earthquake Auger

Earthquake Auger is a tool used for excavating underground with the help of earth, rock and metal. It has a steel body and is gripped with either two handles or one handle and is operated with a remote control. It has a powerful motor that can excavate long trenches up to two feet deep and more than ten feet wide. The auger is a useful tool for farming and other land based activities as it can easily remove soil to a depth of up to six inches at a time.

The auger powerhead is easy to operate and can manage to move large quantities of earth using its strong, durable grip. It can easily drill holes to a diameter of one foot at a time. However, this may not be enough to remove soil and rocks on a large scale. To handle this situation, the auger utilizes gas powered cylinder that injects air into the earth while spinning. This creates suction, which helps remove the excess dirt and rocks from the ground.

The gas cylinder is powered by an electric motor with an output of approximately 37 lbs of pulling force. This makes it easier for the operator to manipulate the machine as he/she does it. The gas does not need to be ignited so it is safe for anyone to use. It is also portable so can be moved from one place to another. The gas is injected to the central shaft which serves as a source of hydraulic pressure and applies to the handlebars when the pedal is pressed. This activates the cylinder to pump air into the soil.

It causes the blade to rotate which grinds the soil as the air is shot into the ground. The grinding process grinds the ground to a depth of between one and three inches. This will reach the base of the foundation or slab where the retaining wall will be installed. The rock that has been ground up will be removed, the fishtail point located below the retaining wall is released causing the ground to open up and gravity will hold the earth back.

Most people would think that an earthquake auger will be used by trained professional engineers and contractors but it is possible for the average homeowner with minimal experience in construction to install one themselves. Most of these augers use a two people approach. Two people are on each side of the auger and they are guided by a map of the area which shows the location of rocks and roots. Once they locate where the two people are going to be then they place their feet and apply the correct amount of force to move the auger to the right direction.

The most compact of these augers is called the single person earth tremble auger. This can be easily transported from one location to another. One man is on top of the cylinder with the throttle placed below them and they guide the cylinder as if guiding a car. As the cylinder is moved, they apply the appropriate pressure to turn the gears on and off thus reducing the force of the tightening of the grip. These are very small and compact, so they do not take up a lot of room in a vehicle or storage area.

A smaller version of the single person earth tremble auger is called the two-cycle 1-man earth tremble. This is also portable and can be easily carried from one location to another. One of these prototype models can be seen in the movie, King Kong.

There is another type of earth auger bit that is called the gas driven auger. This type uses a high pressure air to drive the grinding wheel and this is effective in making very deep and large incisions. However this type of auger powerhead requires an external source of power such as a battery or a generator. It is very heavy and needs quite a large space to operate.
